Programs
Teen
Outreach
This program is designed to build and strengthen character in teenagers.
A comprehensive sexual education program that works with teenagers to
prevent pregnancies; increase male involvement and accountability in
pregnancy prevention; as well as workshops for Parent Education to aid
parents in effectively communicating to their children about sexuality,
alcohol and drugs, and peer pressure.
Great to Wait
In collaboration with Horry County Schools, this teen abstinence program
encourages middle school students to delay the age of sexual activity
and resist societal and peer pressure to become sexually active.
Parent Friend
Parent Friend is a “hands-on” program in which trained volunteers
work with a young mother throughout her pregnancy and during the first
year of the baby’s life. This program seeks to reduce child abuse
and neglect by teaching positive parenting skills, increasing the teen’s
self worth and self-respect, and encouraging economic self-sufficiency
in our clients through educational and social activities. The intensive,
personal support given by our volunteers is essential to assure the
health of mother and baby. An important aspect of our program is to
encourage our clients to engage in behaviors which will diminish the
possibility of a repeat pregnancy.
Welcome Baby
New mothers and fathers in Horry County hospitals are provided with
a variety of information on infant and postpartum care. Parents also
receive the CanDo Kangaroo Developmental Calendar highlighting the developmental
growth for each month of the baby's first year.
Baby Express Baskets
Our prenatal care incentive program encourages young expectant mothers
to get early and consistent medical care. Participants, who begin care
in the first trimester, complete ten prenatal visits and three health
education classes, receive an attractive layette after the birth of
their baby.
